Summer's CrossFit Story
I have been with Yurii and Kerry for almost 10 years now! It’s crazy it has been this long since I started Crossfit. In the beginning Yurii was doing a bootcamp style out of his garage. He was transitioning into Crossfit at the time. I remember thinking the WODs were so different than what I had ever done and I loved every minute of it. It was kind of fun learning right along with Yurii and trying out these “crazy, new ways of exercising”. I played soccer, track, and ran cross-country in high school, and was always active in every aspect of my life. After I was back from my time with the Army Reserves I got a trainer at a local gym. I liked it, but got bored real fast with back and bi days, and chest and tri days! My friend and I joined Yurii and I have never looked back. I had never done any type of Olympic lifting or interval type workouts and never really thought it would be beneficial. I was wrong and this was the type of workout that I definitely would not get bored with. With crossfit I have never felt stronger and more confident. I feel pretty good when my clients ask what the heck is a snatch and how do you know how to do that. I am doing things I never imagined I would ever do.


The knowledge I have gained about how to take care of my body properly is so helpful in my everyday life. I stand all day for my work as a hair stylist, sometimes in very high heels and having my strength allows me to do my job without pain. I feel great about what I have accomplished and that I am capable of accomplishing so much more! After having my boys, starting back up was hard because, let’s be honest, sitting around and eating really good junk food was really fun! I knew I had to come back and be healthy for them and me. It is important for me to have my boys see their mom live life in a healthy, active way. And to understand the benefit of eating right and exercising. They have done crossfit kids and have learned about choosing the right foods and living active. Ryker has even scolded me when I don’t have protein in my fridge! That makes me so proud that I am teaching them these things at such a young age. The community at Crossfit Billings is so amazing. We come together and cheer each other on because we know how hard it is to finish that insane WOD, or how far someone has come and we want them to keep going! There is never any judging and it doesn’t matter how strong you are, everyone always encourages and cheers you on. I have made so many friends for life from our gym and look forward to seeing them and what they will accomplish next. I couldn’t ask for a better community to keep me going on my fitness and health journey.
