Cindy's Story

CrossFit is a state of mind! Everyday over the last 7 years, I have thought about CrossFit - What is the WOD today? What do I wear that matches with the WOD – running shoes vs CrossFit shoes? Texting my CrossFit friends – Are you going today? Are you sore from yesterday’s WOD? Even checking out the WODs on days that I couldn’t make it to see what I missed. Yes, CrossFit has been a big part of my everyday life since my friend, Karrie Erickson Owen, invited me to that first WOD – Fight Gone Bad – September, 2009. She said that this new type of working out is fun because you rotate to different exercises and each day is a different WOD. I was hooked!

I had been active most of my life – biking, swimming, sports, aerobics, and I even trained to run/walk the Rock-N-Roll Marathon in San Diego to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and a friend’s daughter who was diagnosed with Leukemia at age 3. But age creeps up on us and life gets busy. Exercise gets pushed aside to make room for work and family life. I had reached an all- time weight gain and was losing my strength. I was following in my family’s’ footsteps of poor health and obesity. I needed to do something to get healthy and strong. CrossFit has been my saving grace physically and mentally. It is the one thing I do for me to be a better person. The CrossFit WODs are not always easy and there are days when I have to talk myself into going especially after a long day of work. I used to push myself to do more and more. I had a hard time scaling the workouts even when I had aches and pains. Now, I know it is more important to listen to my body and scale a WOD if I need to. I know that sometimes you go forward and sometimes you go backwards but one things is for sure, you never stop! CrossFit Billings is not just a gym! It is friends meeting to support each other to do their best. It is Personal Trainers who care about you and encourage you to reach your goals. CrossFit is a way of life!
