Justin Tinnes's CrossFit Story

My name is Justin Tinnes. I was born and raised in Billings. I have been doing Crossfit for a little over 2 years now (I think). I have always been a competitive person growing up with 2 brothers. I love doing things in the outdoors like mountain bike, water-ski, snow ski, camp, golf, anything really. I work as a Paramedic/Firefighter for the City of Billings, which I have been doing since January of 2012. I absolutely love my job and the people I work with. My older brother Brandon is an electrician and my little brother is a Billings Firefighter like me.

What I love about Crossfit is the community aspect of it. The first open I participated in was awesome, seeing all the encouragement for everyone to push their hardest. The workouts are fun even when they are hard, mostly because someone is usually right next to you sharing in the pain. I definitely wouldn’t be able to do these intense or heavy workouts on my own. It’s great to be able to pick someone who is around the same fitness level or better and try to beat them (in a friendly way), helps make me push myself to do better. Watch out Yurii!! Haha. What initially got me into Crossfit was Halley constantly telling me I should come and try it. After the first workout I was hooked. I feel like Crossfit is a sport/workout program that will always be challenging and never get boring. I constantly have something I can work on, whether it’s being more efficient at muscle-ups or trying to handstand walk (haven’t practiced that very much since I usually knock the wind out myself flopping on my back). Overall I enjoy the challenges in the gym and in life
