Moriah Lee's CrossFit Story
Hey all! I grew up in a large family spending lots of my time outside running around the country side barefoot. However, the closest I ever got to organized sports was about 8 years of dance which was the only consistent activity from age 11-18. Moving into college I liked the idea of being a “runner” and taking my fitness a little more seriously. Though I am far from fast I committed myself to a half marathon and a training schedule and started running. I immediately started having knee pain. I continued to run for a few years always struggling with severe knee pain, I would take a few months off, try new shoes, etc. but nothing fixed the problem.

Jed Burroughs had been bugging me for TWO WHOLE YEARS ☺ about trying crossfit. I finally decided to stop making excuses and give it a try. I ran my last half marathon in June 2016 and two days later met Jed and Cathy at the gym. I kid you not that first workout was a lot of handstand walks and hand stand pushups. My feeble arms nearly fell off the next day! They assured me that not every workout was like that first one and I signed up for the elements class. I was excited about the diversity of crossfit and being tired of strictly running I thought this would be a good fit for me.

I love that crossfit gives me the tools, motivation and coaching to have a well-rounded fitness. Although it seems slow at times, I continually notice myself getting stronger. Isn’t that the best feeling? And lately I’ve been running with absolutely no knee pain. I attribute that to having more balanced muscle strength thanks to crossfit. I also love that I get nervous/excited before every workout. Nervous because the next few minutes might be awful and excited to see if I am stronger or faster.

I love the community and encouragement that is facilitated at this gym. I genuinely look forward to my time at the gym. The coaches here are amazing! I really appreciate that you all take the time to push me to work harder but make sure that I am safe.
